Ontario Brewing Awards

The 2012 version of the Ontario Brewing Awards is well underway.  Invitations to submit beer produced in Ontario went out last week and we all hope that we will get more submissions from more brewers.  2011 was a wonderful year with 133 beers being entered into 22 different categories.

This is certainly a time to celebrate all the wonderful beer that is brewed in Ontario.  Judging will take place over two days at the new Beer Academy at 75 Victoria St.  This wonderful building is being renovated by Six Pints Specialty Beer Co. and has a rich history of brewing in Ontario and was home to both Denison’s Brewery and most recently Duggan’s Brewery.

Judging, as always, is being split into two segments: Gold and Silver awards are being judged by BJCP accredited judges while the People’s Choice awards are being scrutinized by recent graduates of Prud’homme Beer Certification.

This year, we are adding two new awards - The Newcomer of the Year and Beer of the Year.

The gala awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 17th at the Beer Academy and we hope to see you there celebrating the wonderful beers of Ontario.

Good luck to all the participants and thank you for making such wonderful beer.

Cheers
